o conselho de segurança lá vai votar uma resolução muito diplomática

UNITED NATIONS (AP) -- The U-N Security Council plans to vote
today on a revised U-S draft resolution that tempers a threat of
sanctions against Sudan if the government doesn't act to stop
atrocities in the western Darfur region.

The new draft deletes the word "sanctions" but keeps the
threat of economic action against the African nation unless it
disarms Arab militias blamed for killing thousands of black African
farmers.

But aid groups are criticizing the resolution saying it's not
tough enough and relies too much on the Sudanese government.

The Arab militias have killed up to 30-thousand people and
driven over one (m) million from their homes in a 17-month conflict
over dwindling resources.

Pakistan, China and Russia say Sudan needs more time to stop the
violence.
